What is Evening Primrose Oil (EPO)?

Evening Primrose’s special property is the oil in its seeds which contains Gamma-Linolenic Acid (GLA). GLA is an Omega-6 essential fatty acid which we obtain from our diet. It plays an essential role in the body helping to regulate many body functions such as blood pressure and the reproductive cycle – this happens because GLA is essential in production of certain hormones (prostaglandins).

Why take Evening Primrose Oil Capsules?

Our high-potency 1000mg capsule provides 9% of the free fatty acid content as GLA (80mg) – together with 10mg of antioxidant Vitamin E. As well as being a beneficial antioxidant to the body which protects our cells from oxidative stress, the Vitamin E also protects and stabilises the GLA from oxidative stress which helps it last and remain fresher for longer.

There are two methods of extracting the oil from the Evening Primrose seeds. The first is chemical extraction by using solvents and the second is mechanically by cold pressing the seeds – this is a method similar to the extraction of extra virgin ollive oil.
